I had a pre-written draft for Christine Rains and Cecelia (CeCe) Robert's MORE THAN JUST A KISS blogfest - the usual kissing scene from one of my WIP. I have three to choose from that I've posted before. I know, boring, you've all seen it before, and I leary about posting too much of something new that I hope to accepted in short story publications. But I'm a lazy blogfest participant, and if I can get away with the easiest thing, I'll do it.
Lucky for you inspiration hit at the last possible moment, so I took a couple extra days to polish and perfect an original excerpt, and hopefully make it a viable flash fiction scene. As with all of my writings on this blog, it's ok if you offer critique. This is a contest, after all. I'll announce the rules and prizes first, lifted from Cecelia's announcement:
1. Sign up on the linky list and post the badge on your blog.
2. On one of the days of the week of September 9th, post a kissing scene on your blog. It can be either fiction or non-fiction.
3. Please do not exceed 250 words.
4. This is a blogfest, so visit the other participants and have fun!
The scenes will be judged by these amazing romance authors: Laurelin Paige, Kyra Lennon, Christine Rains and CeCe : ) We will choose three posts to win these awesome prizes.
Prize 1 - A critique of a kissing/intimate scene from your WIP (not exceeding ten pages). Critiques will be done by myself (CeCe), Kyra Lennon, and Christine Rains.
Prize 2 - A critique of a kissing/intimate scene from your WIP (not exceeding five pages). This critique will be done by Laurelin Paige and Christine.
Prize 3 - A critique of a kissing/intimate scene from your WIP (not exceeding one page). This critique will be done by CeCe and Christine.
Cecilia, Kyra, Laurelin, and I will each choose one of our favorites to give out some fantastic ebooks.
Cecilia – TRULY MADLY DEEPLY YOU and REAPER'S NOVICE.
Kyra - IF I LET YOU GO
Laurelin - FIXED ON YOU
Christine – All six volumes of the 13th Floor series.

My excerpt is 251 words - hopefully the hosts forgive my one extra word - and I'll title it NORMAL. I took liberties with the "more than" concept of the kiss. Hope it meets the criteria . . .
On a normal day, Darla would have washed the half rotted specks of carrot and red cabbage off her fingers and thrown away the entire contents of the bowl.
As she contemplated whether to toss the tidbits in the waste can with the rest of the mildewed lettuce or rub them off her fingers and add them back into the meager salad mix she’d salvaged, Frank sighed behind her and sank into a wooden chair. She heard the familiar ticking of heavy laces against the tile, and a thunk as first one boot, then the other hit the floor. A tired man relaxing at the end of a hard day’s work.
Darla ignored her husband as she returned her mind to the decision at hand. She jumped only a little as warm, blood crusted hands circled her waist; and smiled as moist lips kissed her neck and nibbled their way just behind her ear.
“Maybe,” she answered, leaning her cheek into his advancing kisses. “The meat is unrecognizable, freezer burnt, and not nearly enough. There’s a box of Rice-a-Roni in my back pack. But this -”
“You’ll make it work,” he said, the kiss on her lips as soothingly confident as his quiet tone. “I’ll distract the girls with a bird bath. Found a water bottle in the garage. Want me to light the Hibachi first?”
The normalcy of the moment made her skin itch. And she wanted so many more of his kisses to ease away her fears.
