IWSG - FEBRUARY

|

Wednesday, Feb 6, 2013

My Insecure Writers Support Group post will be short today. I've been feeling a little off the last week or so, and it seems days go too quickly, deadlines sneak up even when I'm expecting them. I apologize to Nick Wilford for missing the Overcoming Adversity blogfest. I got halfway my excerpt, got sidetracked and forgot to finish. Oops!

I made some progress on my word of the year "accomplishment". I completed a guest post and got it sent off (early, I might add; at least early for for Donna time). I read two books in January and will be posting the reviews this month. Dang, now that I've said that I will have to follow through . . The best way for me to support my fellow blogger/authors right now is to actually read some of the books I've purchased.

I've also been reading e-Fiction magazine (I pay for it, I should read it!) and was able to leave a review-type comment at the site that one of the contributing authors found helpful for his own promotion. Yay; We both feel good about our accomplishment.

The e-zine has seven separate genre magazines: romance, fantasy, sci-fi, horror, noir, steam punk, and the original eFiction is a mix of contemporary/mainstream. If you like to read short stories this e-zine is full of excellent writings; and if you like to write short stories - or poetry, all the zines accept poetry - they are always looking for new authors. Check out the submissions tab at the site.

And speaking of writing; the linky for RFW's February challenge is up. You can sign up, and then post your fan fiction excerpt between 2/21 to 2/24.

Ok; I'm off to go sulk now. Tonight is Justified on FX; last night the channel (as well as SyFy) was a part of my cable package and tonight its a subscription channel. So not cool!

Have a good week ya'll. I'll see  ya around your own blogs.

Hey, no worries on the blogfest. I know what those weeks can be like! Hope you're feeling better! If you want, you can finish the story, and either post or email it to me. I'll hopefully be publishing late Feb/early March.

I also need to get through more of my blogger buddies' books that are on my Kindle. I'm taking a mini writing break before I start edits on my NaNo novel, so I'll be doing that, as well as organising the anthology.

And thanks for the tip on e-Fiction. Sounds interesting!

That is not cool!
Helping that author is a great accomplishment, Donna. That's what we're all put on earth to do.
You need to do a post about "Donna Time" now.

I feel a little MIA myself lately. Between work getting a little crazier, the start of my bathroom rebuilding project has left me little free time. Hope you are feeling better soon.

we hate cable providers.... can't live with them, can't live without them :(

I know that kind of frustration with cable providers. Your word of the year is very cool. Accomplishment. I might take it as mine too.

Pat Hatt said...

I got rid of cable all together here, and helping out that is sure cool.

Hey, sometimes blogging just has to come second. Or third.

Debra McKellan said...

Hey, it happens to all of us. Not feeling it is part of our process. :)

Thanks for the article and the great information about this e-zine. I'm always looking for short stories to read.

I've been wanting to watch Justified. I have access to at least two seasons of it.

I too share your passion in supporting other writers/bloggers by reading and reviewing their work. I'm presently reading Susan Gourley's fantasy (it's a big one at 600 plus pages) but I'm liking it.

Sorry to hear you were feeling out of sorts. Just take care of you and try not to sweat the little things.

So hoping you get to feeling better, Donna! Crap! I missed Nick's blogfest too. Golly, I hate feeling like I let someone down. *hangs head*.

Sounds like you've been busy, feeling off or not. Hope you're feeling better, and thanks for all the info,

Must go take a look at e-fiction magazine. I'm always interested in new venues and have better luck with my short fiction—as scarce as it is.

I don't know how you do half of what you do, Donna. You're my go-to source whenever I eke out valuable blog reading time. Please feel better!

Feel better soon! E-fiction magazine sounds fun to read. Nice that you got that guest post done.

Thanks Nick; I'll try and get it polished up and sent this weekend. I hope you were happy with all the submissions.

Alex: lol, I thought that's what this was :)

Cindy; yep, somedays life just gets away with us. I wish my landlord would start a new bathroom project.

You are so right Dezzy.

I have no problem sharing it Father Dragon :)

Pat: I keep thinking about it. But when its cold and gets dark early, I love that time waster.

Yep, sure does Matt.

Hello Debra; nice to meet you.

JL: I'm sure you'll find something you'll like.

Mike; I did a Justified marathon over Christmas, a friend has the DVD collection. Soon as I find time to call, I'll get this cable mess fixed. I need to read more fantasy, I'll be looking forward to your review.

Thanks Wendy; that good advice for yourself to take too. I hope you're getting better.

Hey Candi; up for a breath from the depths of your editing? I hope its all going well.

Hi Cheri.

Thanks VR :) I hope you write for that e-Noir publication. The two of you would be an excellent fit.

Thank you very much Yolanda; I feel better already.

Thanks MJ.

I hope you're feeling better Donna! Just keep on cruisin'...pity a writer's life is full of deadlines.

Rachna Chhabria said...

Hey Donna, whats up with you. Hope whatever it is will go away soon. Hugs.

DL Hammons said...

We all go through those periods, and all you can do is ride them out until is a new day. Hang in there! :)

And that really sucks what your cable provider did!

Donna Hole said...

Denise; without deadlines I think I'd lose the incentive, lol.

Rachna; just a winter bug, I'm sure. I need to fix up my bed so I can do everything I need all warm and cozy like.

Thanks Don. You hang in there too.

I know what you mean by having books for ages...and not having read them. Do we have an excuse? We're busy? Sure, we're busy. I WILL get to those books soon, I hope! Good luck to you!

...I'm feelin' ya, Donna. For me it's the weather. Dead of winter, no sun for days, suffering from a lack of vitamin D, yearning for a return to The Gulf.

Hang in there, Dearest, better days are on the horizon ;)

Hey Tara; yeah, you look pretty busy to me too :)

Steve: no doubt, we get busy with our own stuff. You have a lot going on in your life, and I'm glad I'm not the only one feeling the writing/personal pressure.

Christine: thanks. Its just a disheartening of the soul.

Carol; you have a lot on your plate. Get that story concept down in writing while it is fresh in your mind. I'm sure it is a best seller :)

El: ah, I miss the sun to. I'm lactose intolerant, so a steady infusion of good weather is always on my list of fav things.

Hey, Donna,
Don't feel too bad. Half the time I sit having a brain freeze, unable to remember what I'm supposed to do next.
