Wednesday, December 21, 2011 and into the new year
I'm an agnostic. I neither believe nor disbelieve in a one God or one true religion. I believe in spirituality; Karma, if you will. I believe that if I am a good person, and treat my fellow man how I would wish to be treated by them (regardless of their treatment of me) then I've accomplished my purpose in this life.
I don't know what the after-life holds for me, or even if it exists. I know only how I love my family and friends today, in this life. I do the best I can. Questions of my soul's worth, and if there is a Heaven and/or Hell, will have to wait until I've completed this journey.
I also do not pray to the god Capitalism. I don't spend money in December that I don't have just cuz its Christmas season. I buy my kids gifts whenever they tell me they need/want something. I don't tell them "I'm sorry, your birthday has passed, and you have 10 months to Christmas before I can buy you another gift." If my finances can accomodate their "I want" then the object is purchased. (I treat my friends and family the same, buying gifts because it pleases me not b/c I'm ordered to.)
As horrible as it sounds, December is just another month for me. But I sure love the New Year, and all the good feelings a new beginning entails.
For those of you who treasure this holiday: Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, and Bless you all for sharing this blogger experience with me for the last year. Here's hoping for another year of Friendship, networking, and occasional bumps in the blogverse . .
(Please take my sense of humor in the spirit of frivolity it is meant.)
Have a happy holiday everyone. I'll be back on Christmas Eve to post for Loren Eaton's shared story concept Advent Ghost :
1.) If you want to contribute, email ISawLightningFall [at] gmail [dot] com. (this is sorta the linky to say I'll join the fun.)
2.) Write a spooky piece of flash fiction exactly 100-words long -- no more, no less. Note that you don't have to write a ghost story, per se. Any genre is fine, but your final result should aim to raise gooseflesh on the back of the reader's neck.
3.) Post your story to your blog on December 24th and email the link to me. Hosting can be arranged for those who don't have their own blogs.
. . and on December 30 for Romantic Friday Writer's theme Ties That Bind.
Please join me in posting for either or both . .
Other than those - see ya'll in 2012.

That is a good way to be, not just buying presents because some jolly old fat guy says so..haha
Oooh, the flash fiction is a tempting challenge. Thanks! I needed that. ;D
Here's to spirituality and good karma, Donna!
I wish we hadn't gotten sucked into the Christmas gift-giving marathon. I keep trying to pull out, but with kids and grandparents who embrace it whole-heartedly, it's not going to happen. So we do the next best thing, which is to give away all the toys my kids no longer play with. We made our annual trip to the homeless shelter yesterday.
I hope the new year brings you great happiness.
It seems the time of year to take a break.
I hope you and your family have the best of holidays! I'll see you in 2012.
Take a break, get some writing done. I'm with Karma.
I buy my Christmas presents for friends all year round. If I see something I know a particular friend would love, I buy & give it then. Life is too fragile and uncertain to wait months. This method makes December financially like any other thankfully.
Love your music. Come check out my French Quarter Christmas ghost story done in a Frank Capra/Stephen King style. Yeah, what a combo, right? The tune is something Victor Standish would like.
May you and your family have the loveliest of Christmas holidays!
I hear you loud and clear Donna. I'm also a non-believer. However, the Christmas brainwashing is so thick that I succumb to the overspending and gift giving and thoughts of the season every year.
Love the clips! I think it's a shame that the holidays have turned into a marketing ploy. Makes me miss the enjoyment of the holiday I had when I was a kid. *sigh*
Enjoy your holiday break! And be safe!! :)
Dearest Donna, just wanted to stop by and say hello and to see what you're up to. Glad you are giving yourself a break. Happy New Year, my friend. Lotsa love to you!

Have a wonderful break, and see you soon, ready for some new adventures :-)
"Goodwill towards men" should be everyone's motto.
We tend to just buy what we want all time, but I do enjoy finding those little surprises for my wife.
And since I am a Christian, it's a very special holiday in our house.
Hey de ho Donna! A thoughtful post for this time of the year! Lots to comment on bright and early Thursday here, like just after 6 am!
Firstly, you got it right about me - always was country, but moved to city 3 years ago. Never thought I'd take to it but I LOVE it! We're right on top of everything. Have all the goodies at our feet. I'd hate suburban city living but I love being near libraries, the Mall, the Cultural Centre, the gardens and best of all the Brisbane River flows right past my door. Great running tracks on the boardwalk where I'm running over the river. Great. Still have our beach house 100 k north where we head quite often and leave tomorrow for Christmas. God where did all that come from????
Anyway, I'm a Christian so Christmas is a special time for me and mine. I really wallow in it all. I totally get that not everyone shares my POV. I just wish I could wave my magic wand and give everyone what they need not just at Christmas but all year round. Saw a disturbing show last night showing the poverty in America, focusing on Denver Colorado where so many people have lost their homes. Showing families booking into motels at night, recently homeless. Things look especially hard in the US. Let's just hope and pray 2012 is better for the whole world.
Love Enya. Thanks for the vid.
Would love to enter Advent Ghost but I just won't have time. I'll have to concentrate on Ties...
Looking forward to seeing RFWer posts on Dec 30, yours included.
Sorry for long comment but there you go. Christmas must do that to me!
Enjoy your loved ones and a bit of free time!
Denise
Enjoy your break! :)
I hope you have a great break! :)
Too funny Pat
Happy writing Victoria
Tis the season for charity Alison. As long as it pleases you too.
You too Anne. You and Monster Baby have a wonderful holiday.
Thanks Josh
I tried buying all year too Roland. I just ended up giving it to the intended recipients. I love to see happy faces. I will stop by.
Can’t fight the brainwashing Michael, lol.
Laura, I do remember loving Christmas as a kid. I hate to see the feeling ruined for my own kids.
Thanks Don.
Been missing you around the blogs Olivia. Have a good Christmas and New Year.
Thanks Sarah; I’m sure looking forward to new adventures.
Merry Christmas Alex and Denise. I’m always happy to see people enjoying the spirit of the season. It does my heart good to witness.
Thanks for the long comment Denise. Always a pleasure to “hear” what friends have to say.
Thanks Carrie and Golden. You have a wonderful end of year.

Happy Holidays, Donna! I kind of understand what you mean...I have always loved Christmas but it doesn't really feel like the holiday is only a few days away.
I am also agnostic, so Christmas has always been more about family, getting together with loved ones, gifts (hehe), happiness and miracles instead of religion.
